Founded in 2002 through the merger of the Medical Academy and the Military Medical Academy of Łódź, the Medical University of Łódź is Poland’s largest teaching hospital unit and a leading European research centre. With a tradition dating back to the 1940s, it educates future doctors and specialists in medical sciences and related fields. The university secures over a hundred research grants annually and conducts numerous individual research projects. Currently, over 700 foreign students attend medical and dental programmes taught entirely in English. The five-year Dentistry programme at the Medical University of Łódź is designed for high school graduates and aligns with EU standards, fulfilling requirements obligatory for Polish medical higher education institutions. This long-cycle Master’s degree programme is equivalent to the five-year BDS in India and awards the degree of LEKARZ-DENTYSTA (Doctor of Dental Medicine). The Dentistry Teaching Centre boasts state-of-the-art dental and phantom units, positioning MUL among Europe’s top medical education centres. The curriculum includes preclinical and paraclinical courses such as anatomy, medical chemistry, biology, and physiology, as well as clinical courses in conservative dentistry, orthodontics, prosthetics, and oral surgery. The programme intake occurs once a year in the autumn, with the academic year running from October to June.
