CEU Cardenal Herrera University Overview

CEU Cardenal Herrera University (CEU UCH) is the most established private university in the Valencia region and one of the most internationally recognised in Spain. Part of the San Pablo CEU Foundation — the largest private educational group in the country — the university has grown to welcome nearly 10,000 students, with approximately 35% of its student body coming from outside Spain. Its main campus is located in Alfara del Patriarca, just outside Valencia city centre and directly connected by metro (Line 1), offering students the perfect balance of campus life and urban convenience.

CEU UCH operates across three campuses in the Valencian Region — Alfara del Patriarca (Valencia), Elche (Alicante), and Castellón — and holds academic partnerships both within Europe and internationally, including a student exchange agreement with Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. The university participates in programmes like Erasmus and Socrates, and its graduates are equipped with a globally respected degree that opens doors across Europe and beyond.

University Dental Clinic On-Campus: Students train in a fully operational University Dental Clinic located within the same building as their faculty, giving them access to real patient care from the very early stages of their degree — not just in final years.

State-of-the-Art Pre-Clinical Facilities: The Alfara del Patriarca campus features purpose-built anatomy rooms, modern laboratories, and dedicated pre-clinical simulation rooms where students develop and refine essential dental techniques in a risk-free environment before transitioning to live patient treatment.

GDC-Recognised Degree: The Dentistry degree from CEU Cardenal Herrera is recognised by the General Dental Council (GDC), meaning graduates can practise dentistry in the United Kingdom as well as in any EU country without the need for further examinations or bridge programmes.

Internationally Experienced Faculty: Teaching at CEU UCH is led by eminent professors who are also active practitioners, bringing real-world clinical experience directly into the classroom. Students benefit from a teaching model where professional knowledge and academic theory are fully integrated from day one.

Post-Graduate Fellowship Opportunity: Upon completing the degree, graduates have the unique opportunity to continue their development as a fellow at the CEU Dental Clinic — treating real patients under professional supervision before entering the job market.

The Dentistry programme at CEU Cardenal Herrera University is a five-year full-time degree taught entirely in English, leading to an officially recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry (Grado en Odontología). The degree is automatically recognised across all EU member states and is accredited by ANECA (the Spanish Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation) as well as the Valencian Agency AVAP.

The curriculum is structured in two broad phases. In the first two years, students build a strong foundation in biomedical sciences, covering subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology, microbiology, pharmacology, and general pathology. From year three onward, the programme transitions into intensive clinical and speciality-focused training, encompassing oral surgery, prosthodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, paediatric dentistry, implantology, endodontics, and oral medicine. The final year includes an advanced adult and paediatric clinic, legal dentistry, practice management, and a Final Year Project (dissertation).

Practical experience is woven throughout the entire programme, with students working in simulation labs and the university’s own Dental Clinic under the supervision of qualified professionals. Graduates are fully prepared to work as general dental practitioners and have clear pathways into specialist fields such as orthodontics, oral surgery, and cosmetic dentistry.

Living costs in Valencia for students typically range between €700 and €1,200 per month, depending on lifestyle. This makes it one of the most affordable cities in Western Europe for international students, while still offering an exceptional quality of life. Compared to Madrid and Barcelona, Valencia is approximately 25% less expensive, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a rich European experience without the financial pressure of larger capital cities.

Valencia is Spain’s third-largest city and a genuine student city, home to a vibrant international community with world-class museums, festivals, beaches, and cuisine. The city is famous for the City of Arts and Sciences, its Mediterranean coastline, and as the birthplace of paella. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, a thriving social scene, and excellent public transport including metro, bus, and an extensive cycling network, student life here is both fulfilling and affordable.

Spain is increasingly recognised as a leading destination in Europe for high-quality English-language dental education. CEU UCH is particularly attractive because it delivers that quality in one of the continent’s most liveable and culturally rich cities. Alumni networks, Erasmus mobility options, and strong university career support services mean that students are never without guidance — from first year through to graduation and beyond.
